What is Aortic Valve Disease?

Aortic Valve Disease is occur when valve stops working properly and this caused by valvular insufficiency. This disease can cause to breathlessness, chest pain and can also cause to the heart to pump less. It largely occurs in old age.

Causes of Aortic Valve Disease

  • It can be present at birth or can happen later.
  • Rheumatic fever is one of the biggest cause of Aortic Valve Disease.
  • Aortic Valve Disease can also occur because of calcium build up around the valve.
  • Coronary heart disease and heart attack are also cause of this disease.
  • Infection in the valves and the lining of the heart wall.
  • The common cause of this disease is senile aortic calcification.
  • The less common cause is diseases of the aorta.
  • Congenital deformity means a person have born with abnormal valve.
  • Blockage in the arteries which supply blood to the heart can damage to the heart.
  • Some kind of drugs and radiation.
  • Heart muscles disease cause to this disease.

Symptoms of Aortic Valve Disease

  • Some person do not have any symptoms.
  • Breathlessness and Arrhythmia.
  • Irregular heart rhythm
  • Chest pain because of insufficient blood flow to the heart.
  • Congestive heart failure and blood clots.
  • Fainting and dizziness are the symptom of this disease.

Treatment of Aortic Valve Disease

  • People with no symptom or minimal symptom do not need treatment.
  • It may be well by medicine only but if condition become worse medicine can't work for a long period of time.
  • Digitalis is used in treatment which reduces the workload of heart.
  • Beta-blockers is also useful in controlling heart rate and lower blood pressure.
  • Digoxin is used to control the heart rhythm.
  • Limitations on strenuous activity is recommended.
  • Antibiotics are used to treat this disease.
  • For reduction of swelling diuretics is useful.
